Soil-SENSE monitors bioswale health with sensors and cloud data for stormwater management.

APPLICATION


Soil-SENSE is a real-time soil moisture monitoring system that provides volumetric data on soil and filter media moisture, temperature, and electrical conductivity. This advanced monitoring kit allows sensors to be deployed at up to three depths. Soil-SENSE operates on battery power with solar recharge and connects wirelessly (via cellular) to a cloud-based data platform featuring a user-friendly dashboard. The convenient burial of the TEROS 12 sensor accurately reveals the exact levels of moisture, temperature, and electrical conductivity—eliminating the need for probes, guesswork, or site visits.


Soil-SENSE is perfect for monitoring and documenting: 


- Stormwater Best Management Practice (BMP) Performance, including bioretention, biofiltration, rain gardens, and more. 

- Stormwater Runoff Prediction by integrating soil moisture data into your own models for more precise forecasts. 

- Irrigation Efficiency & Water Use Reporting. 

- Agricultural/Geotechnical Research, featuring multi-depth probes for detailed moisture profiles. 

- Green roof optimization by tracking the moisture content of engineered media. 

- Soil Temperature and Conductivity, with optional sensors for measuring frost depth and salinity build-up.


WHAT'S INCLUDED & OPTIONS


Included with Kit:


1.) A small form factor NEMA IP67 rated data acquisition computer.  

2.) A small form factor NEMA IP67 rated battery pack.  

3.) An 18W Voltaic solar panel.  

4.) A Teros T12 sensor.  

5.) A stainless steel mounting bracket for the rain gauge, battery, computer, and solar panel, including stainless steel hose clamps for secure mounting.


Options:


1.) Additional Teros T12 sensors (up to 3—contact P4 for options up to 8).  

2.) Direct-Bury sensor cabling (length varies based on site conditions).  

3.) A galvanized steel stand-alone pole with a driven base and corner bolts for assembly.  

4.) Optional sensors for measuring frost depth and salinity build-up.  

5.) PVC wiring conduit for stand-alone pole computer mounting configurations.


INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS


Select a location where soil or filter media conditions are to be monitored. Dig a small diameter (8") hole and mount the sensors into the native soil. Backfill with soil or filter media as applicable. Install the stand-alone pole support. Run sensor cabling to the computer's location. Plug in the sensor, turn it on, and data will begin flowing.
