APPLICATION
AVFM is built for measuring volumetric flow rate in open channel stormwater conveyance systems including: open channels; and non-pressurize pipes. The open channel cross-section can be used along with water-level depth and flow velocity to compute volumetric flow velocity in an open channel system. A perfect example application is documenting flow volume, rate of discharge, and duration of discharge from a detention system or an infiltration system with overflow discharge to storm sewer.
A Pulsar signal conditioning unit, data acquisition computer, battery and cellular antenna are contained in a NEMA IP67 enclosure mounted to a stand-alone pole, or existing pole. A Pulsar depth and velocity transducer is mounted at the invert of the open channel using P4-provided sensor mounting system. Direct-bury sensor cabling is run from the sensor to the enclosure.

INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS
Customers should assess the need for a stand-alone pole mount for the computer enclosure and solar panel. If no existing pole or other mounting location is present, the stand-alone pole option should be selected. Provisions should be made for a sensor wire run from the sensor to the computer system mounted to an existing or new stand-alone pole support.

Coupling P4's DEPTH water level monitoring kit with VELO facilitates area-flow-velocity measurements. The open channel cross-section can be used along with water-level depth and flow velocity to compute volumetric flow velocity in an open channel system. A perfect example application is documenting flow volume, rate of discharge, and duration of discharge in an open channel (e.g. adjacent to a bridge culvert).
A Pulsar MicroFlow transducer (sensor) is mounted above the flow line using a P4-provided sensor mounting system. Direct bury cabling (within a 1-1/2" inner diameter conduit or not) is run from the sensor to the computer system.
